A few rambles

I know i've been primarily posting my photos lately and haven't really said much in a long time.

I've been doing a lot of thinking about blogging, what I want to say, and what is currently relavent in my life these days.

One of those things is, I've chosen to live an out life as a Wiccan Priestess. It frequently makes for interesting interactions with people of other faiths or backgrounds. Which is one of the reasons I joined an interfaith progressive clergy group a couple of years ago. I feel it us all on our toes and the dialog is always good. I never feel like someone is trying to force their POV down my throat and that people are open to hearing what I have to say.

Of course this is tempered by interactions with JQ Public. I recently has a piece of woodwork designed to hold our Coven Pentacle. I couldn't really hem and haw about what the stand was for, I had to explain that it was a cradle for a Magickal tool, what it was and how it was shaped. When the artisans had roughed out the work, they called me, so we could see how the two pieces would fit together. When I was about to hand the artisan the Pentacle he had to ask "Am I going to be cursed for handling this?" Really?? you had to ask that? Um no, if you were I wouldn't be handing it to you. Would you have asked the a Priest that if he handed you a chalice of wine? Probably not.

I am choosing to believe that this was just outside his normal realm of experience and the question was asked because, he didn't want to be disrespectful to what he was holding, and didn't know how to phrase the question.

It was one of those uncomfortable teaching moments for both of us. And we got through it none the worse for wear. I didn't lash out about presumptions regarding non-Abrahamic religions; that all Pagans worship Satan or eat babies, etc. And used my Communion Chalice analogy regarding respect for the object and he got it. He also refrained from making any jokes about it afterwards.

Now if more people would behave like that regarding religion and politics, I think the world would be a better place.
